First Raccoons of the Season 2016

5/15/2016

Comments

This week we got in baby raccoons!! One of the young had approached a human crying, and this is a sure sign that it has been abandoned. She was skinny and dehydrated (we call her Monkey 1), and another was found dead. Early on Sunday morning, another was found in even worse shape. We call her Monkey 2. She had maggot eggs, fleas, and ticks covering her weak body. In a situation like this, the most important three things to do are to warm, stabilize, and hydrate. As soon as those three tasks were accomplished, their color and overall well being improved immensely. You can tell when an animal is feeling better when it becomes more aware of its surroundings and gets a little more wild. Day one down, can’t wait to see how these little ones turn out!!!!
